GWCs and Wannabes
Guys With Cameras (GWCs) and Wannabes go hand in hand and whilst they are not quite directly related, they’re normally found looking for each other thanks to an influx of amateur photographers which follows on nicely from my previous thread on the impact cheap dSLR cameras are having on the industry.
GWCs are not specifically any age group or social background but they all have the same motive - using the camera to see girls naked. Most of the time GWCs have to pay models because their images are poor or not very exciting to warrant TFCD. You know what I mean, the kind bland glamour shots with a white background and tits sticking out.
If I’m honest, this is good for models that charge but it also saturates the genuine model sites with crap shots. You see alot of GWCs on model forums, since the amateur market for models is contained within these (as anyone wanting professional models for commerial work will go to an agency). Wannabe’s fit into to this nicely as GWCs will generally troll the TFCD sections of forums waiting to pounce on any unsuspecting young girl thats never modelled before. And since people are generally vain they jump at the oppertunity to pose.
Wannabe’s can mainly befound on social networking sites such as MySpace, Bebo, and Facebook and have practised the pout to perfection. Wannabe’s are also vital for the survival of the generic glamour photographer as a typical charge of £200 for a set of shots keeps the bills paid.
While this is great commercialism and you can’t blame the togs for taking the money, but they are aslo feeding the habit of these wannabes that will not have a hope in hell of getting anywhere other than PRing at esteem-sapping exhibitions if they are lucky. Still work is work, unless you PR for certain automotive events that don’t pay the girls…
I have nothing against wannabe’s and in fact it can be quite entertaining to watch the way they act on some forums, but they do clog up the models sites with shite. They should stick to Bebo and get their kicks from teenagers saying how nice their tits and arse look.

I couldn’t understand some parts of this article d Wannabes | Quantum Capture Photography Blog, but I guess I just need to check some more resources regarding this, because it sounds interesting.

Whilst I agree with some of what you have said, some of it is just utter tripe, because someone is “Just an amateur” it doesn’t make them a GWC, many GWC’s (like you once were) go on to produce some great work to a high standard. Just about every model is at some point a wannabe, basically they are opportunists, some will never make anything of it and some will lead the industry.
By all means fight the good fight, but don’t make the mistake of tarring everyone with the same brush, I have seen superb work from armature (GWC’s) and some appallingly poor work from “Professionals” and visa versa, its all a state of mind, if you have no desire to produce quality work or if you have the desire to produce quality work, your initial status is irrelevant, its how you evolve that makers a difference, there are and always will be good and bad in every walk of life.

you’re not getting what a GWC is. All amatures are not GWC only certain ones are. I have never been a GWC although I am an amature since the majority of my income is not from photography.
If you had properly read my entry you would see that a GWC is someone “using the camera to see girls naked”.
Please make sure in future you read mine (or others entries) before going off on one.
