Phottix BP-40D Battery Grip Review

July 12th, 2008 Ross

It can be a bit of a gamble when buying non OEM bits and bobs for your camera.  Will the lens focus, will the battery be ok, will the flash do the same job, will it be as good quality?  With most 3rd party manufacturers like Hahnel, sigma, tamron etc making decent products you are generally not too scared to purchase items made by these companies. DIY Photobooks

June 8th, 2008 Ross

Photobooks are a popular way to present photographs in your own book.  In the past I’ve used photobox to make my books which I use as presents for family and fill them with pictures of my son over the past year.  These are fairly cheap but I’ve never been happy with the paper that they use Read the rest of this entry »

Behind the scenes - Simple one light art nude shot

April 26th, 2008 Ross

I paid a visit to my local studio today to shoot Claire.  I only had a short period of time so only got a couple of shots as I tend to work slowly (or faff around too much lol).  This is a simple one light set up although I should have used a reflector to put some light onto her hair.  The information about how you set the lighting diagram can be found at the end of this entry Read the rest of this entry »

Update

March 23rd, 2008 Ross

Appologises for those waiting to see my review of the Harman FB paper range.  I’ve been on holiday and my R2400 has choosen not to recognise the LK cart.  The engineer is coming out on tuesday so should have it published on Wednesday Night.  I’ve also recived a sample pack of Fotospeed’s EG Fine art paper.  This includes 2 sheets each of the highly rated platinum baryta paper in gloss, matt, warm tone gloss and lustre finish plus 3 cotton rag papers.   Fotospeed also do free ICC profiling if you buy a pack of their paper (not the test pack).

I recently purchased a Carl Zeiss planar *T 50mm f1.4 and will be comparing it to an old Yashica 50mm f1.4 ML lens on my canon 40D using a contax/yashica adaptor.

Coming soon - Harman FB inkjet paper review

March 13th, 2008 Ross

update  18.04.08 - review can be found here

Harman were nice enough to send me samples of their paper range for a recent presentation I did on fine art papers at ayr photographic society . At focus on imaging Harman released a warm tone verson of their very popular gloss FB AL paper and although this was too late for my paper review it is in time for my blog. Sadly my epson R2400 has contracted a problem with recognising one of the ink carts so I’m having to put back the review untill it gets sorted.
